Twilight Series Take 2

After having discussed the ending of this series with my awesome neighbor Susie I wanted to explain a little more about why I found it disappointing and the message it could be sending to all those young adult readers.

Now remember, you don't have to agree with me on this at all. And I do know that it is just a story but as a reader I want certain things.

I think for me the big thing is that Bella got everyting in the end with a nice bow on top. She got the baby. She got the vampire. She got the werewolf as her best friend and future husband to her baby. She got a new vampire family. She got to keep her own family and stay in touch and close proximity to her father and mother.

Where was the sacrifice that was being made to become a vampire? All of the other members of the Cullin family went through it. Why not Bella? in fact just turning into a vampire and going through the stages was better for her than any vampire ever. There was no choice really between Edward and Jacob because she got them both in the end.

I don't think that the author intended this.In fact I think she got so caught up in her own characters that she probably couldn't see this. The messages of infactuation or obssesion being love, not going through any trials or sacrifices to get what you want, etc. Life is not all about getting your cake and eating it too. I just thought that is was OKAY to have some parts that were sad. Okay not to have her parents at the wedding. Okay not to have the baby live. Things like that. that's life.

Ok. I am done. Thanks for listening.

You said EVERYTHING I was thinking about the book. I just finished it today.

I agree, I think she should have lost her parents, and probably Jake too, although I liked him too much to want him to be unhappy. I was routing for Jake + Leah. I was surprised that I was okay with her being a vampire in the end, at first I was completely opposed to that. Like my friend Jana said, at least we got the obsessing about becoming a vampire out of the way early on, that got old. But I mostly agree with the awesome Susie part...

Hi Rebekah. I just finally finished reading it and agree with you. It fell flat for me, Bella getting absolutely everything she wanted. I especially thought the Charlie bit was a stretch. The author bent and broke so many of her own rules for the world she created that it was hard to feel much integrity in the novel.
